Robert’s passion for music started the summer before 5th grade when he first picked up his saxophone. From there, his love for music and people grew through high school to the point of pursuing a degree in Music Education. His ultimate aim was to instill a passion for music in the lives of his students.
Upon graduating from the University of Kansas, Robert served as a music educator in the Iola, KS and Gardner, KS school districts. After coming to Christ in his first year of teaching, Robert had the opportunity to attend Urbana Student Missions Conference in 2012. It was there that God opened up Robert’s eyes to His global church and it was there, on the final night of the conference, that he made a promise to God. At the time, his promise seemed simple—to be as involved in spreading the good news of Jesus as Savior and Lord as he possibly could be. Robert’s desire was to be of utmost use in the Kingdom of God. His promise was simple and his prayer was wherever, however, and whenever.
God presented Robert the opportunity to serve as a full term missionary serving on the island of Madagascar with Africa Inland Mission. Faithfully answering that call, Robert left in January of 2015 where he spent 9 months serving the Lord in Madagascar.
Having returned from Madagascar, Robert asked his then girlfriend, Kristin Ellerman, to marry him. Their love for each other saw them through his time as a missionary and his calling into full time ministry. Answering God’s call again, Robert accepted a position at Lawrence Heights Christian Church where he served as the Youth and Associate Pastor for 6 years. His wife, Kristin, served LHCC as their worship director for 3 years. Robert and Kristin thoroughly enjoy combining their individual gifts and experiences to further the Kingdom of God together.
Robert began serving Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church in January of 2024. He is excited to see what God will do in the lives of the congregation as well as the community at large. His prayer is to encourage the church to actively engage the community with the good news of Jesus Christ!
The Elder Board

At Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church, we believe the local church should be under the direction of a board of elders and not subject to an area or national denominational board. The Elder board is in charge of the shepherding, budget, and overall direction of the church. It is comprised of men who meet the Biblical standards found in 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, and other scripture passages regarding church leadership. Deacons and Other Ministry Leads
Deacons: John Franco & Allan Higley
The primary function of the Deacons is to assist the Elders. They typically function as people who get things done and are often the ones heading up different ministries.
Ladies Aide: Amy Pound, Dawn Ellerman, Esther Willis, Lana Aspinwall, Janet Rygaard, Ardith Spencer, and Peggy Mailen
An often used other name for the Ladies Aide would be a "care team." This group of women are the ones showing the love and kindness of Jesus through cards, wedding showers, baby showers, funeral dinners, pot-lucks, and so much more. They also regularly give to missions in addition to what the church gives.
